  • Toilets?
    We do not have toilet in the boat so make sure you use a restroom before going on the expedition or get ready for a bathroom open ocean experience.
  • When is the best time of the year to go whale watching?
    The season officially starts mid December and ends mid April. We can start seeing Humpback whales since November but December until March are the best months to go whale watching in Cabo. January and February are the peak of the season and its when most whales are around.
  • Do you pick us up from our hotel?
    We meet directly in the marina, our is suggestion is to get an uber or a taxi from your hotel. We can also help you arrange transportation if you need.
  • What type of clothes do I need to bring?
    Warm jacket and pants if you are coming in one of our sunrise or sunset tours, it is winter and sometimes the wind its very cold. Long sleeve or a light jacket if you take a tour in the afternoon Hat and sunglasses for sun protection We include a raincoat per person in case of rain or in case the waves are splashing and you need some extra cover. If you are doing a snorkeling tour you will also need to bring bathing suit, towel and a dry change of clothes.
  • What can we see?
    Depends on the time of the year and the season. We can see whales in the winter months, the most popular ones are humpback and gray whales but if we are lucky we can see blue whales, fin whales, orcas, bottle nose dolphin, common dolphin, sperm whales and Bryde's whales. Also other marine life like sea lions, sea turtles, rays, frigate birds, pelicans, sea gulls and cormorants.
  • How do I book?
    Please, send as a message or email so we can get in touch with you we ask for 50% deposit to confirm your a reservation
  • What kind of food is include in the tours?
    For the 2 and 3 hours tours we include water, cereal bars, cookies or fruits. The 4 hours tours or more include lunch, that can be a sandwich or burrito always adjusting if you have a food restriction.
  • Where we will go?
    This depends on the ocean conditions and the weather, we will go to a location based on our experience and knowledge of the area so we can have the best encounters.
  • Do you include snorkeling gear in your tours?
    Yes, fins, mask, snorkel and wetsuit. Before every tour you will fill a questionnaire so we can know your size.
  • At what time of the day can I see more whales or when are the most active hours?
    Whales are WILD animals so we cannot control them and we cannot ensure one hour in the day that is better, in our experience we have seen them in the sunrise, sunset and all ours between that. Is a matter of luck and patience.
  • What type of boat do you use?
    We use a 10 m Panga boat with a roof that fits 12 people max
  • Are we going to swim with whales?
    No. Swimming with whales is completely illegal in Mexico.
  • Why choose proyecto cetáceo?
    We carry out responsible and safe whale watching, trying to generate the least possible impact and avoiding forced interactions with the animals. Our guides are ocean lovers and passionate naturalist that will provide information about the area and the local fauna giving you the complete experience of a truly environmental friendly tour All our tours and expeditions are very educational, we want our guests to have an amazing time while learning about the marine life in Baja Sur. Our goal is that everyone leaves with a lot of new information, a different perspective and a life changing experience. We have and hydrophone on board to listen to the beautiful songs produced by the whales. We are creating a bank of images and records that allow us to identify the individuals on our tours and keep track of their routes to understand them better. We donate part of our profits to Mexico Marine Wildlife Rescue Center & RABEN and an organization dedicated to untangle whales from fishing gear. We also donate part of our profits to education in local schools and take kids to see the whales so they can experience and become guardians of the environment. On every tour and expedition we provide water, snacks, life jackets, raincoats and all the nice photos and videos we take, free of charge!
  • Are whale watching tours safe?
    Whale watching tours are perfectly safe, on your whale watching tour you’ll be in the company of experienced, trained and certified guides, it is an unforgettable experience.
  • Kids discount?
    0-4 yo can join all our tours for free, 5-12 yo get a special price.
  • What should I bring with me?
    - Biodegradable and reef friendly sunscreen - Sun protection: cap or hat, glasses (The boat has a roof, but the sun can be strong at times) - Comfortable clothes and shoes - We include water, snacks and photos but you are welcome to bring your own water bottle, snacks and camera if you like.
  • What time of the day is the best time to go?
    It really depends on what you are looking for. Sunrise is beautiful because normally there are not other boats around, the ocean is super calm and you can see beautiful views. During the day it will most likely be sunnier and warmer so you can enjoy a warm day in the ocean without waking up so early. Sunsets are also beautiful but the wind tends to be stronger and the ocean is usually crazier and bumpier. Usually, the later in the day you go, the bumpier the ride gets. Whales and other animals can be seen the whole day.
  • Are photos included?
    Yes, we take photos in all our trips, we send the photos as soon as posible and free of charge
  • Do you guarantee sights?
    We are talking about wildlife and nature, we cannot control them and we cannot guarantee sightings. We do our best to find animals based on our years of experience. We can guarantee something unique on each trip, a day in the ocean is always a good day. You will surely leave with a lot of information about the marine life of the region.
  • Can pregnant women go?
    The tour is tranquil and we go slow, if you are pregnant and want to experience a whale watching adventure you are welcome to come, but it is at your own risk.
  • Do you have an age restriction?
    No, anybody under the age of 18 must have a liability form signed by parent or guardian, kids under the age of 4 don’t pay and make sure to bring extra sun protection for them also remember is an activity that requieres patience to be able to spot the animals.
